Two Ancient Seal Impression on Copper on Lead

Description

Two ancient cylinder seal impressions that have been cast in copper laid onto lead. Images featured, show animals being mastered by humans. and a royal figure on a thrown using dot form iconography. The impressions  likely to be a Museum deaccession.

Origin

The impressions have been made from ancient cylinder seals, from Western Asiatic regions, including Mesopotamian, Babylonian, Sumerian and Akkadian cultures.  Based on the cost and complexity of making these impressions, normally made using clay, they came from a serious and significant collection of cylinder seals. Likely a deaccession from a museum collection or that of a prominent private collection.

Seal 1-Width 4.25cm Height 2.5cm. Seal 2-Width 4.5cm x Height 1.8cm.Height on stand 9.3cm width 6.5cm

Condition

impressions of ancient seal images made late 1800s to mid 1900s. Presented on a custom made Perspex and wood stand.
