Sassanian repousse silver bowl with central inner figure of an archer on a horse. A register of animals to the inner edge featuring wild boar, elephant and ibex. cf – The Met object No. 34:33 for similar.

Origin

Sassanian Empire Circa 224 to 651 AD. Iranian empire that stretched across most of modern Iran, Iraq parts of the Arabian Peninsula, the Caucasus, The Levants and parts of central and South Asia. A protagonist of the Roman Empire.

Measurements

Diameter 21cm and 7.5cm in depth. Dispolay height on stand 26cm.

Condition

Fragmentary condition as per photos. Losses and repairs to sections of the bowl. Stable condition on a custom made display stand
