Roman Turquoise Mosaic Glass Bowl

Description

A beautiful Roman turquoise coloured Mosaic glass bowl/cup. Mould pressed and bell shaped in profile. With applied trail foot, formed from mosaic glass panels and museum repaired with modern aqua glass. The processes to manufacture these items came to Italy with Hellenistic craftsmen from the eastern Mediterranean. Labour and time intensive, the manufacturing produced an array of beautiful glass objects. cf. British Museum item numbers 1981,0727.1 and 1869,0624.8

Upper rim of bowl 9.5cm in diameter. Height 4cm.

Condition

Repaired condition as shown with ancient mosaic panels combined with museum quality aqua glass repair. Base stand that’s shown in photos comes with the object.
