Description

Lovely Parthian glazed Oil burner with a pair of quadrupeds as the base, supporting a shallow bowl. Beautiful green glaze across the entire object with earth accretions and patches of iridescence due to burial. Impressed facial detail to the pair of animals and raised decorative harness to their shoulder areas. Object has been made in the round with solid body, as distinct from hollow.

Origin

Parthian Empire 247 BC to 224 AD . A vast empire founded by a steppes people, the Parni, who were a formidable force mainly due to their highly skilled horse archers.  Protagonists with the Romans and Kushans, the Empire weakened over time before being overtaken by the Sassanians.
