Luristan Decorated Bronze Axe Head

Description

A bronze Luristan Axe Head ith duckbilled shaped head. Long socket extension with three knobbed extensions on three areas of the socket shaft. An attractive and tactile piece, albeit a weapon.

Origin

Luristan. North-West Iranian province now called Lorestan. Luristan relates more to a group of ancient artifacts and a largely unknown nomadic peoples, than a distinct culture. Experts in bronze casting as evidenced from the highly stylized and decorative pieces they made. Circa 1000 BC

Measurements

Object  shaft 8cm tall width 11cm to tip of blade. Height on stand 11cm.

Good ancient condition on custom made clear Perspex stand.
