Description

South Arabian alabaster plaque with low relief carving of a bull’s head. Striated eyes and flaring nostrils with surface engraving representing the hide of the bulls face. A carved Acanthus leave between the bull’s curved horns. Cf. Cleveland R.L., An Ancient South Arabian Necropolis, objects from the second campaign (1951) in the Timna Cemetery, Baltimore, 1951, Plate 61 TC696 and Plate 67 TC2182, for similar examples (esp.61). Also British Museum Reference numbers 13463, 135307, 136357 and 134957.
